Coronation Street Spoilers: Maureen Lipman drops details on Fiz’s Coronation Street exitexit

There’s a dramatic showdown on the horizon for Fiz Stape and her interfering lodger Evelyn Plummer – and Maureen Lipman has confirmed that the clash all but leads to Fiz’s exit from the show

Fiz is keen for Tyrone Dobbs to tell his new found grandmother that she needs to find somewhere else to stay but Evelyn will continue to dig her heels in and cause tension in the household. As she comes between Tyrone and Fiz’s relationship, will they head for the rocks? Speaking on This Morning, acclaimed actress Maureen teased: ‘She finds Fiz too common. A lot of the characters are what my mother would have called common. Evelyn doesn’t think Fiz is good enough for what is or might be her grandson.

‘I am elbows in between Fiz and Tyrone – I would say that I’m very involved in Fiz’s exit, short of kicking her up the backside!’ Fiz’s temporary departure comes as Jennie McAlpine heads off on maternity leave, having recently given birth to her daughter Hilda. Jennie tweeted that she and Hilda were watching Maureen’s interview on the show as it aired so thankfully relations are much better off screen. Jennie already has a three-year-old son called Albert with her husband Chris Farr and she shared the news of Hilda’s arrival on social media, saying that the family members are all in love.

While Jennie says goodbye (for now!), Maureen confirmed that she is sticking around herself. She said: ‘I’m staying on the show for a while, I’ve got my feet under the table now. I thought I was going to die when I started on Corrie. We did 39 pages and I thought, it can’t be like this all the time, but they were cramming my stuff in so I could do my one woman show!’ Let’s face it, it was worth it.
